Tobal No.1 had a decent story mode and a truly in-depth fighting system, much like the aforementioned king. It’s no surprise the developers went on to make the world’s most successful driving series.īattle Arena Toshinden was realistically quite poor, Tekken was just a nice looking 3D fighter restricted by a 2D plane but Squares Tobal No.1 was a true contender to topple Virtua Fighters crown. Made by the relatively unknown, at the time, Polyphony Digital it possessed amazing graphics, crazy weapons while actually being a genuinely great driving game. Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 is a great kart-style racer, which no one played. It was the future of gaming, 22 years ago. At the time it represented a huge step forward with its fully 3D rendered world, unique driving mechanics and a fantastic two-player link mode. Released originally in 1994 on the 3DO it was later ported to the PlayStation which was a great move because no one actually had a 3DO.
You may know this simply as Need for Speed, another franchise EA has subsequently destroyed. ROAD & TRACK PRESENTS: THE NEED FOR SPEED The story saw evil Klogg, leader of the Skullmonkeys, trying to destroy the Neverhood leaving protagonist Klaymen to save the day. Skullmonkeys is a genuinely funny platformer which played a lot like it was made by David Perry, it wasn’t though.
